Sohum Shah
Sohum Shah

Okay, so I have to give it to this man for being truly versatile. He doesn’t come with a Khan lineage, isn’t a Kapoor either and doesn’t have a Mr. Moneybag Daddy to launch him in Bollywood. Still, he has played a dreaded gangster in one film, has enacted the part of a guilt-struck stockbroker perfectly well in his second film and is now appearing as a compulsive flirt in his third.

This, when he killed people to begin with (in his first film), and then wondered if he was living off on a stolen kidney (in his second film). Now he is set to steal hearts (in his third).

Bachna ae haseeno, anyone?

Really, the name Sohum Shah may not instantly ring a bell but this unconventional looking guy is indeed making some unconventional choices film after film. Now that he is stepping into the shoes of none other than Farooq Sheikh in the remake of Sai Paranjpe‘s Katha, expectations are tremendous.

Says a friend of the actor, “Sohum is really excited as well as nervous to enact the part that has been made oh-so-memorable by Farooq saab. He truly feels that Farooq saab was one the best actors that the industry had. He is well aware that he has big shoes to fill in, but then he is up for the challenging role of a compulsive flirt. He finds the role very meaty and feels that there are many layers to this character.”

For someone who has excelled in lesser known gangsta flick Baabarr (which was actually a hard hitting drama that can be seen) and then much hyped Ship of Theseus, Sohum has proved his mettle and in the process also lost oodles of weight.

The friend adds:

Well, wait and watch. This isn’t all that he is capable of. Soon, he will also be seen in horror flick Tumbad (by Recyclewala Films) and then Meghna Gulzar’s next where he has Irrfan Khan for company.

Now didn’t we tell you that the man is truly versatile!
