Bollywood’s legendary star, Amitabh Bachchan, recently made an appearance on the show, Agenda Aaj Tak. And it marked a rare occasion as he spoke about the darkest phase of his life during the event. Though Big B is one of the most celebrated actors of the industry, there was a period of time during which he had to face a lot of difficulties.

Recollecting those days, the superstar said during the show, “It was a difficult time. ABCL (Amitabh Bachchan Corporate Ltd.) went into debt. I was bankrupt. The people who expressed desire to work with me at the peak of my career, came and hurled abuses at me.  When you are in such a problem, you don’t sleep at night. On one such night, I asked myself ‘Who I am’ and realised that I came here to act and should stick to it.”

It seems that’s when Amitji finally realized that acting is his passion and only that can help him overcome the difficulties. So he went to the late filmmaker, Yash Chopra and spoke about his issues at length. After that, Big B was offered a meaty role in Chopra’s Mohabbatein. And then began his second innings in Bollywood.

This reminded me of a quote by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross that I read recently –

‘The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.”
