When I got back from a wedding last night, my face had a ton of makeup all over it and I couldn’t wait to take it off and get into bed. But… unfortunately, when you’ve got a lot of makeup on, using one wet wipe doesn’t quite cut it. I’ve tried it. I woke up the next day with heaps of black residue under my eye… gross! In order to avoid that, and we all know how important makeup removal is, get all your makeup off gently and effectively in 5 steps.

1) Grab Your Tools

Coconut Oil & Cotton

All you need is baby oil or pure coconut oil and cotton. If you want to use the least amount of oil, then you can also use baby wipes in addition to oil (I love using oil because they’re such great multi-tasking products and you really don’t need to spend money on remover).

2) Your Face

Load up your cotton pad with oil and gently wipe your entire face. If you need to use more than one cotton pad to get every nook and cranny, then so be it. If you prefer to use less oil, then gently clean your entire face with a baby wipe, go over your face with a smaller amount of oil on  a cotton pad afterwards. Avoid your eyes and lips.

3) The Lips

Using another cotton pad dipped in oil, so as to not get messy, wipe your lips clean. This is a great way to moisturize and exfoliate your lips as well. Make sure the color is completely off. The best part? Virgin coconut oil is edible! And even though baby oil may not be edible, it is designed to be paraben and chemical free.

4) The Eyes

Hold a cotton pad dipped in oil on your lids for about 5 seconds, then swipe one way and watch as a whole load of makeup wipes off. Once you’ve done this for both of your eyes, place a cotton pad under your lower lash and one top of your lashes. Mildly clean off your mascara and watch as the residue gets onto the lower cotton pad.

5) The Final Step

Cleanser
Cleanser

Take a clean cotton pad, not soaked in oil, and use it to wipe off the excess oil and dirt on your face. Then wash your face with cleanser and you’re good to go. I always make sure I don’t completely scrub off the oil with cleanser, so I can sleep with a thin film of moisturizer on my face.

P.S – Vaseline removes eye makeup really well too. For other uses of vaseline petroleum jelly, check this out!
