Calling All Bollywood Lovers! When Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan And Aamir Khan Spoke The Loudest.

There were movies that left us spellbound and some of our favourite superstars gave us various reasons to be happy in the year gone by.  This morning, we gave you a recap of several memorable events in B-town in 2014. Now, Here’s a quick low-down on a few things that grabbed the attention of every Bollywood lover.

1) The biggest patch up – Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan reunite!

They had hugged at an iftaar party earlier too but it was different this time around. The coming together of Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan seemed way more real and warmer. Ever since then, they have been courteous to each other. In fact, Salman even complimented SRK’s Happy New Year. This was taken to the next level when the mighty Khans hugged and made up further at Arpita Khan’s marriage.

2) The film that made us say – ‘Oh My God’ – PK

The audience walked out of the theatres after watching PK and said, ‘Oh My God’. Yes, because that’s exactly what it reminded them of. Similar in theme with the Umesh Shukla-directed affair starring Paresh Rawal as a lead, the Rajkumar Hirani film revolved around a similar theme of God and religion . However, after the initial reactions, the Aamir Khan-starrer has flourished on its own accord, and is now the biggest blockbuster of 2014. It’s also the first movie to make it to the 300-crore club.

3) The great movie that was almost boycotted – Haider

Haider

When Haider released, Hansal Mehta went all out (amongst other celebrities) and celebrated the ‘chutzpah’ that the film had to offer. As terrific reviews started coming in for the Vishal Bhardwaj outing, many took the route of social media and termed it ‘anti-army’ and ‘anti-national’. There were protests and some even called for the movie to be boycotted. This didn’t happen though and Shahid Kapoor enjoyed an overwhelming critical success.

4) The flicks that finally released – Ungli and Ugly

These two small-budget films with rhyming titles were both stuck in the can for way too long, and for different reasons. While Karan Johar is working in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet (which was also delayed), his own production, Ungli (finally) saw light of day. And that’s exactly what happened with Kashyap’s Ugly (based on the stand taken against the ‘No Smoking’ disclaimer) also. While the former flopped badly, Ugly has had some good reviews. However, neither of these films succeeded at weaving magic at the box-office.

5) The horror affairs that were not winners – 3 AM, Creature 3D, Darr @ The Mall, Pizza

Creature 3D

It isn’t as if horror doesn’t sell. Right? There were quite a few films belonging to this genre that were released but then none of them managed to make any impact. If Darr @ The Mall suffered due to execution, Pizza lost out due to a weak climax. 3 AM was just not promoted at all while Creature 3D just about came close to breaking even, despite a first-of-its-kind experience of a certain ‘creature’ hogging the limelight.

With so much happening so quickly in B-town, we’re not making any hurried predictions about what is to be expected this coming year!
