We caught up with Manoj Bajpayee (also known as Manoj Bajpai, but that’s not how he spells it) during our Tevar interviews with Sonakshi Sinha and Arjun Kapoor, and he was all kinds of awesome! So I thought you should know about all the epic things he said (in his superbly understated way) when my team chatted with him. Enjoy! :)
PS. I don’t know if you know this, but I’m a mega Manoj fan, ever since I watched Zubeidaa. “Buck up Victor, buck up!” #Superstar
I treated this character who is very child-like, who’s like a lover boy, as if he’s falling in love for the first time. So more than the negativity you’ll see a lover boy on the screen.
A bada** lover boy? Nice!
I’m known to play different characters, so that has been my strength and that has been the most challenging thing in my career. Because doing different roles all the time is not something that comes very easy to any actor in this world. For that you have to work really hard.
Arjun is a darling. He keeps telling me he is not dating anybody, but I’m surprised why he’s not getting anybody? Why a girl’s not liking him?
Bahahaha, ok you and I both know why this is hilarious :)
Sonakshi’s father was quite an inspiration for all the boys growing up watching him, and I was one of them.
That’s kinda awesome.
At times Sonakshi used to get food from home, that makes her my favourite (laughs)
Most of the interesting roles, in a film, a producer or a director take the biggest of the stars. And if the stars are interested in those roles, they do all the roles!
For an actor like me, we are only offered the roles that a star would never touch.
There is always a commercial strategy which is ruling over the quality of the roles.
I care two hoots about my image! I just go with the flow…
(I don’t know why this immediately made me think of Horton Hears a Who.) But, yes this is what makes you awesome MB!
After Tevar you will see me in four niche kind of films.
Shootout at Wadala I grabbed the role which was third best, two of the best were done by the stars Anil Kapoor and John Abraham. But I loved it, I thought it was the best role in the film.
Most of the time I was partying because Arjun and Sonakshi are so much into work outs and dieting, and if I just control my diet I lose weight. Genetically I am blessed. I was the only one who was partying!
Ok, now I love him even more!
Agra was a moment I can’t forget, this was the first time I’d seen the Taj Mahal! Tevar took me to Agra for me to have a look at Taj Mahal, which is one of the wonders.
That’s kinda awesome :)
After Tevar, Saat Uchakkey will be coming. One of my most favourite films, all of it shot in Chandini Chowk.
Chandini Chowk has a different culture all together, even though it’s in Delhi.
(Can I get a woot woot five for Chandini Chowk?)
I would like to believe I’m a very sincere person, as an actor, as a person.
You are Mr. Bajpai, you are!
I would like to believe that I don’t care damn!
And THAT is why the man is boss.
