#ThrowbackThursday: 10 Madhuri Dixit Dance Songs That Make Us Want To Revisit The Past

Mishti Shirke
Madhuri Dixit

People all over the world know her as the epitome of Indian beauty, the expression master, a bundle of talent, the charismatic diva with a million-dollar-smile, and though there are more reasons than one, we’ll eternally remember Madhuri Dixit for her unbeatable dancing prowess! Here are a few performances of Madhuri’s that will remain etched in our hearts forevermore <3.

1) Ek Do Teen

Even the ridiculously hilarious costumes of the 1980s couldn’t dim Madhuri’s shine! Ek, Do Teen, choreographed by Saroj Khan, was where this dancing queen’s reign began!

2) Didi Tera Devar Deewana

This was one of those songs that aptly captured Madhuri’s adorable charisma with just the right hint of playfulness. This number was a huge hit amongst the masses and the song rapidly became a must-play at all weddings.

3) Dhak Dhak

Dhak Dhak showcased Madhuri’s sexy persona entirely – loaded with some extreme pelvic thrusting, rhythmic chest movements and just overall uninhibited oomph. Madhuri’s orange sari and blouse still remains vivid in my memory – not to mention her sizzling hot chemistry with Anil Kapoor!

4) Choli Ke Peeche

Choli Ke Peeche was renowned for its controversial lyrics during its release. Though this peppy number initially created a stir in the media, Madhuri performed the entire song with such poise and elegance, it was a guaranteed hit sans any vulgarity!

5) Channe ke Khet

This beauty from Anjaam was pure brilliance. Not only is Madhuri a giant heap of adorable-ness in it, but who could go past the lust-filled looks Shah Rukh Khan is consistently throwing Madhuri’s way, behind his glass of porto! Oh, and the thumbs-up-hands-out-wide signature step from this particular song, will remain timeless.

6) Que Sera Sera

This was one of those non-stop, dance frenzied numbers (a treat by any standards for all true dance fanatics) – that time two dancing legends literally set the screen on fire! Madhuri matched Prabhu Deva‘s steps with ease and quite simply put, the two created pure, genius dancing magic on screen. Too much epic for me too handle!

7) Dance of Envy

I still remember sitting cross legged on the floor of our tiny unit, undeterred and glued to the screen when I first laid eyes on this feisty dance phenomenon by two of the most beautiful actresses I had ever laid eyes on. Madhuri and Karishma Kapoor LITERALLY stole the show. Not enough words do justice to this gyrating, pirouetting, jazz infused dance explosion.

8) Badi Mushkil

Haiiiiii… this has got to be one of my all time favourite solo performances of Madhuri’s. Her effortless expressions, those fluid moves, her perfectly timed thumkas and jhatkas and that kind of aadayein that only Madhuri can do justice to. Combine all of that, and you have a concoction of dance brilliance.

9) Maar Daala

Everything from Madhuri spinning around in that breathtaking green and gold lehnga to the lavish sets, beautiful courtesan and the incredulous dancing will remain an indelible memory in many a fans’ heads! Her dance in this song heavily encapsulated Kathak (her forte). Though I’ve watched this song countless times, there hasn’t been a moment where I’m not in awe of the sheer brilliance this goddess weaves on screen.

10) Ghagra

Madhuri’s song Ghagra literally became ‘TV ka breaking news’! This is one colourful item number that has me humming and dancing along without a care in the world, wherever I happen to be. And which girl doesn’t dig an occasional whirl and twirl in some dazzling ghagra?!

Now this is one blast from the past that makes for some serious dance-spiration <3!
