If you follow Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter (I’m sure you already do considering he has 11 million followers) you must have seen a series of pictures he posted with an insanely similar looking statue! Wondering what we’re talking about? Have a look at his tweets and the nice things he’s said about it.
I love that he’s so proud of the fact that this was all made and done in India!
The Red Chillies VFX team headed by Harry Hingorani and Keitan Yadav got in touch with Autodesk after they attended their event where they were shown a 3D printed iPhone cover. From that little iPhone cover case, the team got the idea to make a life-size 3D statue for the King and present it to him for his birthday! The scale and technicalities involved for this mammoth project made it a little difficult to present this on November 2nd, but they managed to perfect it by January 2015 and judging by Shah Rukh’s reaction, we don’t think it bothered him, that the gift was a little belated. Let’s just say the usually composed actor got rather emotional *collective awwws all around*.
When prodded further on their future plans with this amazing technology, Harry and Keitan mentioned that Shah Rukh now wants to make a museum and print other stars of Bollywood! Imagine how cool that would be!
