Alessandro Michele & Frida Giannini
Alessandro Michele & Frida Giannini

New year, new beginnings and this time, all eyes are on iconic luxury brand, Gucci’s new Creative Director. I’d say new hire but once you read the rest of this post, you’ll know why I chose not to. As Frida Giannini took her leave after 6 glorious years as the creative mastermind of the brand, the management at Gucci started a lookout for her successor. They didn’t need to look too far. Say hello to Alessandro Michele; here’s everything you need to know about him.

1. Before He Took The Reins

Prior to being appointed as the Creative Director, for 12 years, Alessandro worked at Gucci as everything – from Design Director of Leather Goods to Associate to Frida and head accessory designer. The man is insanely talented

2. And Even Before That

Before he got bitten by the Gucci bug, his design career started off at Fendi where he was one of the Senior Accessory Designers until Tom Ford found him 2002 and moved him to Gucci’s London office.

3. This Isn’t The First Time He Has Been Named Creative Director

Fashion isn’t his only forte. Michele was appointed as the Creative Director of Richard Ginori which is a porcelain brand Gucci acquired mid 2013.

4. Where All The Talent Comes From

Alessandro Michele wasn’t just born with all this talent. He studied costume design in Rome, where he was born, at the Academy of Costume & Fashion.

5. To New Beginnings

He first showed his head during the Gucci menswear show that just took place and Michele’s vision for Gucci will be unveiled during the Women’s Fall/Winter show in February.

Good luck Alessandro, we can’t wait to see the magic unfurl!
