Surprise, surprise. 100 days before the release of his feature film, Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani, Mahesh Bhatt will be sharing this same dream story in the form of a book. Titled All That Could Have Been, the book is being slated for a 25th February release. With this, the characters played by Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan are also being revealed.

A source says:

“Releasing the book was always the plan. Work on it was on for some time. Bhatt saab has written the book in collaboration with Suhrita Sengupta. They are making it very clear that All That Could Have Been would soon be told as a Major Motion Picture in the form of Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani.”

There’s a window of 100 days available between the release of the book and the feature film, and it does make sense to make this news. As of late, the films that have a book as their basis have managed to generate good curiosity around them. The most recent example is the Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer 2 States, which was in news ever since its announcement, courtesy its source namesake book by Chetan Bhagat.

Informs a reader who has managed to catch hold of a few pages from the book:

For those who want their books to be sensitive to the core, All That Could Have Been is a blessing. It is apparent that this is one of the most emotional tales ever to be told by Bhatt saab. Also, it has that personal touch to it, something that always makes his work stand out.

While one waits to know more about the parts that Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan play in Hamaari Adhuri Kahaani that is being directed by Mohit Suri, we managed to catch hold of an excerpt from the book. This is what we inferred:

  • Emraan Hashmi is playing a wealthy hotelier named Aarav in the film
  • Aarav had a disturbed childhood as he was a witness to his mother selling her body to many
  • He grows up to be an emotionless man who considers women as a commodity
  • He comes in contact with Vasudha, played by Vidya Balan, a single mother raising a child on her own
  • Vasudha has her own demons to fight as she has come to realize that her marriage was a mistake
  • Aarav offers a job to Vasudha in his hotel at Dubai
  • For the first time, he gets emotional and falls in love with a woman
  • Both are undecided whether this indeed is love, as Aarav has been forever detached and Vasudha has taught herself not to dream

Are you looking forward to it – the film and the book?
