With only days left to go until the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is in full swing, we’re certain that this year is going to be nothing short of epic with some of the world’s best players coming together for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. To mark this momentous occasion we thought we’d give you a quick rundown on why you should be totally prepared with your cricket jersey, snacks, cheers and beers!

1) Three cheers for CRICKET!

This time around, the World Cup is down under maiiiite (we’re referring to Australia and let’s not forget New Zealand)! This means the sun will be shining, the crowd promises to be as ballistic as ever, and I guarantee fans from all over the world are going to be in the stands cheering on every game of the tournament. This is your chance to whip out that blue jersey, paint your face with the colours of patriotism and go crazy cheering, dancing, jumping and applauding!

The Grand final will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (which is HUGE to say the least)! Other venues in Australia are WACA in Perth, Adelaide Oval, the historic Sydney Cricket Ground, Manuka Oval in Canberra, Bellerive Oval in Hobart and Gabba in Brisbane. Venues in New Zealand include the picturesque Eden Park in Auckland, Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Seddon Park in Hamilton, McLean Park in Napier, Saxton Oval in Nelson, the modern Wellington Regional Stadium and University Oval in Dunedin. In total, there are fourteen colossal venues – seven in Australia and seven in New Zealand! Can you imagine visiting each and every one of these places?!

3) Legends and History.

Here’s a super quick recap on history so far, just to get you a little up to date with what you may have missed. Feel free to also marvel at the amazing and rich history behind it all!

  • West Indies won the first two editions of the World Cup consecutively in 1975 and 1979.
  • India won the World Cup as underdogs in 1983 (WOOHOO), Australia won the 1987 edition, Pakistan won in 1992 against England which was held in Australia.
  • The 1992 World Cup was particularly special, as it was the first edition which had coloured jerseys, the introduction of the white ball and playing under lights – adding more colour and spunk to the game!
  • The 1996 edition was held in India won by Sri Lanka, and Australia went ahead and won the 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cup. This made them one of the greatest cricketing nations (Whoa)!
  • The previous edition which was held in 2011 in India and Sri Lanka was won by the hosts and our beloved INDIA. Will we repeat what we did then? Time will tell!

4) Young guns who will shine on the field!

The likes of Steve Smith, Kohli, De Villiers, Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Hashim Amla, Dale Steyn, Glenn Maxwell and a lot of other names will make this World Cup Huge. We’re expecting extraordinary catches, tight fielding, wild run outs and antics from the crowd as well – not to mention some eye candy on the field <3.

5) The big hitters!

Watch out for AB DE VILLEIRS! This dude hit 149 off 54 balls in a match that was played nearly a month ago (let’s just take a moment to appreciate this.). In fact, a long list of Big hitters are playing this one! David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Chris Gayle, David Miller, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Brendon McCullum, Angelo Mathews and come on DHONI (just to name a few) – smash away guys!
