If you’re a ’90s baby, chances are you spend a lot of your time reminiscing the good old days… especially that of Indian TV. Hip Hip Hurray was one such gem back in the day that is remembered even today as a cult show. The series told the story of a bunch of 12th graders from DeNobili High School and dealt with real teenage issues like exam stress, peer pressure, relationships, career options, health issues, drug abuse and more. The show first aired in ’98 and made its way into everyone’s heart essentially because of its ‘slice of life’ quality.
Here’s a look at what our favourite kids from the show have been upto since the great age of Hip Hip Hurray…
Nilanjana Sharma played Mona the head girl and her physical transformation seems most drastic. She went on to act in and produce some Bengali shows and is currently happily married to Bengali actor Jisshu Sengupta.
Purab Kohli played Mazhar on the show and can be called one of the most popular faces out of the entire Hip Hip Hurray gang. After being a VJ for several years, he moved to films. His last movie was the critically acclaimed Jal and he is now gearing up for Rock On 2.
Peeya Rai Chowdhary played the brat Kiran (and was my favourite on the show!). She, like Purab, was a VJ for many years and has also been part of some movies. She was married to Shayan Munshi for about 5 years before the two separated. Probably best known for her role in Gurinder Chaddha‘s Bride And Prejudice, Peeya was last seen in a deodrant ad.
Pamela Mukherjee played Bela on the show. She also played the role of Radhika in Hum Paanch for a while before she got married. According to her Twitter profile, she works as a voiceover artist and actress in Mumbai.
Rushad Rana is a very familiar face on Indian television and has also featured in numerous advertisements. He is a happily married man and currently plays the character of a gay professor on MTV’s youth show Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan.
Sharokh Bharucha was the funnyman Cyrus on the show. He appeared in some ads back in the day and also had a small role in the Rahul Bose movie Everybody Says I’m Fine but what he’s doing now might shock you. Sharokh is settled in New Zealand and is a banker by profession! #IKnowRight
Zafar Karachiwala played the brooding Rafey on the show. He’s been part of some critically acclaimed movies and was also seen in a small role in Aamir Khan‘s Delhi Belly. A married man now, Zafar is a visible face in the Mumbai theater scene.
Candida Fernandes was the ‘new girl’ Alisha on the show. She’s done a number of ads since then and continues to do so.
Mehul Nisar played Mehul’s role on the show – the cute and forever hungry class topper! Over the years, Mehul has done various shows like Tumhari Disha, Dekho Magar Pyaar Se, Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, Mata Ki Chowki, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli and most recently, Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan.
You may remember Samantha Tremanya as the annoying girl who loved Aamir Khan‘s character Aakash in Dil Chahta Hai, but she started out as Samantha on Hip Hip Hurray. She’s done small roles in films and in Tv series, but currently, she lives in Pune and works as a PR professional.
Shveta Salve played Prishita on the show and was the ‘hot one’ at the school. More than a decade later, she’s still the hot one. Shveta is known for her hot body and amazing dancing skills. She’s done a variety of roles on TV too!
Yogesh Pagare’s IMDb reads the following:
Yogesh Pagare is a director and actor, known for Ek Tha Hero (2014) and Hip Hip Hurray(1999).
I’m offering this information without comment.
Vishal Malhotra played John on the show and kept us entertained with all his fun antics. Vishal is known for being a fabulous anchor of shows and has also played roles in TV and films; my favourite being Ishq Vishq. He was most recently seen in Farah Khan‘s Happy New Year. Also, it looks like he’s found the fountain of youth because the man has looked practically the same through all these years.
Kishwer Merchant played the NRI Noni and has had a good career on Indian television ever since. Currently dating Suyyash Rai, Kishwer can be seen on Sony TV’s Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar.
That was some walk down the memory lane! #NostalgiaTrip.
