She’s famous. She’s gorgeous. She’s idolized by many. Yet, Madonna overlooks all these labels and prefers to call herself a ‘Rebel Heart’. Why so? That’s one question not many people would ask, especially if you know her. Every time she does something, it always makes her stand out from the crowd – be it her fashion, style or actions.

Many are familiar with the fact that the singer was once raped in the 1970s before she became famous. But, not many know that she never reported her rape. In an essay for for Harper’s Bazaar, US, she once wrote,

New York wasn’t everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don’t know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time.

Recently, when she was at The Howard Stern Show, she was asked as to why she never reported her rape, she said,

You’ve already been violated. It’s just not worth it, it’s too much humiliation.

Humiliation is a big factor when it comes to such situations. However, it’s mostly because of what the society makes you feel. And it was the 1970s, a time when a woman had a tougher battle to fight.

What do you think of Madonna’s decision?
