Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is not just a movie, it’s a way of life. People use the dialogues of the movie in daily conversations. When talks of pulling the movie out of Maratha Mandir were going on, I was sure the staff, insects and the ghosts of Maratha Mandir (who have been watching the movie every morning at 9am) would not let that happen! Obviously, love won and DDLJ is STILL running in theatres. 1000 weeks have come and gone, but the movie never gets old. So check out some facts from the movie you might want to know!

1) Saif Ali Khan was offered the role of Raj Malhotra!

We love you Saif, but no no no. Thank God this didn’t happen.

2) Tom Cruise was approached to play the lead too!

Imagine him dancing to Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane! You can’t right? Nor can we!

3) Remember that scene at the end of Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane when Shah Rukh Khan drops Kajol? Aditya Chopra didn’t tell Kajol this would happen so her reaction remained genuine!

4) Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna was originally meant for another movie!

That would be blasphemy.

5) Armaan Kohli was offered the role of Kuljeet but Parmeet Sethi killed it in his audition.

Because he’s a winner, and Armaan Kohli isn’t.

6) This scene was ‘inspired’ by an old Hollywood movie.

Remember the scene where Himani Shivpuri (who plays Kammu bua and flirts with Anupam Kher‘s character) tries out sarees and rejects every saree Shah Rukh Khan disapproves of? Of course you do!

Yep, that one. Now this iconic scene has been lifted from the 1957 legal thriller, Witness For The Prosecution!

The hats in Witness For The Prosecution were replaced by sarees in DDLJ!

7) Also, the Palat scene was a copy too!

But you knew that already, didn’t you?

8) Saroj Khan was replaced in the last minute by none other than Farah Khan!

The veteran choreographer Saroj Khan and the debutant director, Aditya Chopra had numerous differences, which finally lead to Aditya roping in Farah Khan to do the choreography instead!

9) Karan Johar’s big screen debut!

From DDLJ to Bombay Velvet, Karan Johar is such a star!

10) Aditya Chopra’s office has a signed poster, with a message written by Shah Rukh Khan!
