Dum Laga Ke Haisha has turned out to be an amazing success story at the box office. The momentum in collections was apparent in the opening weekend itself, when the film went on to see huge jumps in occupancy. The weekdays were superb too. Interestingly, the weekday collections were practically the same as Friday’s, which is remarkable, since that means the footfalls were even greater (as ticket rates are higher during the weekend). The film held on well in a major way and the word of mouth has continued to be largely positive with very good comments coming its way.

As a result, the film has now collected over 10 crore in its first week and is looking to stay strong in the second week as well. With Holi adding up to a three day long weekend and family audiences beginning to warm up to the film now, it is a given that second weekend would be better than first (6 crore). The actual fun would be to see if the overall second week turns out to be better than the first week, something which was witnessed last year with Queen. All of this means that while 20 crore is a given for the Ayushmann Khurranna-Bhumi Pednekar starrer, there may well be bonus awaiting this Sharat Kataria film.

There wasn’t as much luck for Nana Patekar starrer Ab Tak Chappan 2, though, which started losing steam during the weekdays. If the weekend was ordinary, there wasn’t much to cheer about in rest of the week either, which is disappointing since the film had good brand value attached to it. Poor promotion was the reason behind a disappointing weekend – and the ordinary content meant there was no word-of-mouth to help the cause during the week. As a result, the total stands under 7 crore. Flop.

Meanwhile, Badlapur continued to find audiences in the second week as well and brought in 9.5 crore. It could have fetched at least 3-4 crore more if it weren’t for the competition from Dum Laga Ke Haisha, meaning its total could have been 50 crore by now. However, it will now have to wait for a week to get there as the current total stands at 46 crore. The film is now second highest grosser of the year so far, after Baby. Hit.
