Two years of My Gym
Two years of My Gym

Veda has now been attending classes at My Gym Children’s Fitness Center for almost 2 years! It’s really amazing to see her progress; not only with her physical development, but with her social development too. She has made some really great friends (as have I) in her classes and really looks forward to seeing them at the practice and play sessions.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, My Gym provides a clean and safe environment for kids of all ages to run around and exercise. There are different classes depending on age group. Veda attends the Gymsters/Terrific Tots session, which is created for the 2-3yr olds. Each class follows the standard structure of warm up, exploring the gym, scheduled activities, free-play and a winding down puppet song.

This week during warm-up, the teacher (Ashfika) had the children stretch and bounce. They also tried a circle dance and a new floor based exercise. The warm-up really helps ease them into the rest of the activities.

Veda had lots of fun exploring. Her favorite was the little tunnel created by the big soft barrel. She kept crawling into it and playing hide-n-seek! She of course also loved jumping on the trampoline with her good friend Yuto 🙂

Some of the other unique activities during this class were “The Big Deal” and the giant wheel. For The Big Deal, the children were wrapped into the parachute cloth and pulled thru the tunnel. It was like an amusement ride!  The Giant Wheel worked on their coordination. They had to roll on the wheel and try to maintain their sense of balance.

My favorite activities during this class were the walking seesaw and the ladder. The seesaw was a great way to work on the children’s balance while still being really fun. The ladder was quite scary for Veda at first and it was great to see her take on the challenge. She is usually a bit afraid of climbing, but seeing her friends’ try first, gave her the motivation she needed.

This week, they had hung up a boat style hammock swing. The kids had fun using their imagination and “rowing” in the boat. My little Diva chose to relax. 😉

As always, we ended with separation time and a puppet song. During today’s class, the kids had fun listening to Monia, who read to them and no one was afraid of the friendly Shark puppet!  Unfortunately, there is one down side to the class… and that is getting Veda to leave (which turns into it’s own lil workout). 😉
