Yet again, it was Hollywood that won the Indian box office and that is simply because Avengers – Age of Ultron provided an exciting outing for the money paying audience. The film managed to do well across the country in A, B and C centers. This pretty much proves that the audience won’t mind shelling out money for a franchise action offering from Hollywood that offers a wonderful big screen viewing. Avengers – Age Of Ultron received a very good opening in excess of 10 crore, continuing to bring in moolah during the weekend, totalling around 35 crore. This Marvel production is a clear Superhit in the making.

Honestly, there was no chance for the likes of Ishq Ke Parindey, Jai Ho! Democracy and Kaagaz Ke Fools to score at the box office. With none of the three films even managing to find whole hearted attention from critics, majority of whom chose to ignore these movies completely and instead enjoy a Friday evening off, the writing was clear on the wall, the audience and the critics were on the same page.

As a result, even the combined collections of these three films couldn’t cross the 1 crore mark. Now this is a pathetic state of affairs as such kind of films isn’t what an average moviegoer bargains for. As a matter of fact, one wonders how these films were even sanctioned as the concepts clearly didn’t seem exciting, even on paper.

The fourth release of the week – Lateef has been pushed to 15th May, this could reap in at least some benefit for the producers as they now have the chance to promote this Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer well. Otherwise, competition with Bombay Velvet on this day won’t really help this much-delayed stuck-in-the-cans film.
