Should Bollywood be scared of Hollywood after Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers 2? [Kabir – Vizag]
Not yet. One has to take into consideration the fact that both Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers 2 have come at the time when not a single quality Bollywood film released. Moreover, both are franchise films with good popularity across the world. Also, these are hardcore action films which are also event releases. Now even in Hollywood, releases in such genre of films are only 8-10 in number every year. This means one has to worry about only this number of weekends in India too. Beyond this, the other Hollywood releases are not quite a threat ‘as yet’.
Well, the key thing here is ‘as yet’ because if Bollywood doesn’t mend it’s ways and continues to churn out one sub-standard product after another, it won’t be long before a relatively large segment of Indian audience starts saying Hello to non-franchise/non-event/non-action Hollywood films as well. For now, that market is very minuscule in India but it could well be about time the Hindi film industry pulls up its socks.
As for rest of the year, the only films that Bollywood needs to worry about are Jurassic World, James Bond’s Spectre and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation which are scattered over the months.
