Oily Skin

It’s summer, and the thought of moisturizer in the sweltering heat dripping off your face and caking up your makeup is not a pleasant thought. Many people actually ditch moisturizer during the summer, thinking that they really don’t need that extra oil on that skin. But this is exactly what you shouldn’t do.

When it’s hot, we have a habit of looking for cleansers that will strip the oils from our skin that cause the stickiness we feel. We also use a lot of “anti-shine” and “mattifying” products and, as mentioned above, skip the moisturizer. But even after all of this, as the days go by, we are still oily. That’s crazy! Why is this?

Biologically, the sebaceous glands underneath our skin are responsible for producing oils to lubricate our skin. When we strip our skin and do not replace the moisture it needs, our sebaceous glands go into overdrive and produce more oil. This type of sudden and profuse oil production by the sebaceous glands cause blocked pores, black heads, white heads, inflammation, irritation and acne – ouch!

Basically? Don’t skip the moisturizer. To encourage you to moisturize, I’d like to add that not only will your makeup not melt and cake up, but your skin’s moisture level will be well balanced and you will end up with glowing, healthy skin. Moisturizing even the oiliest skin is important. Uber important!
