The word ‘strobe’ brings about images of disco lights, shiny sequins and hip-thrusting moves. However in the makeup world, strobing is actually a subtle method of bringing radiance to your face. This latest makeup trend is a popular look with Beyoncé, and since we bow down to all things Bey, we had to learn all about it!

Strobing is the polar opposite of contouring. While contouring aims to create shadows to narrow and define your features, strobing opens up your face by bringing light to it. Unlike contouring, you only require one product to achieve this look – a highlighter. Pearly and illuminating formulas work best for this technique.
To start with, pick a highlighter that matches your skin tone. Highlighting pens work best for this method, but feel free to pick a powder or cream. Swipe a generous amount on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose and below your brow bone. For an all over glossy look, you can apply a tiny amount on the inner corners of your eye and above your Cupid’s bow. Blend it all in with a makeup sponge or a fluffy powder brush.

Although this method sounds incredibly easy (and it is!), it is absolutely essential to start off with great skin. Since strobing brings attention to all your features, your skin problems will also be highlighted. Use a gentle cleanser daily to wash off all the grime and follow up with a rich moisturizer to keep your skin supple. After all, if you’ve got a natural glow going, strobing will only make you shine brighter!
If low-maintenance beauty is your thing, try out this technique. Getting dewy, luminous skin has never been easier!
