A lot of women (whether we’re talking about actresses or former sportswomen) usually abide by some kind of light exercise during their pregnancy. This being said, we’re so sure none (or very, very few) would run an 800-metre race while 8 months pregnant! Five-time U.S national champion Alysia Montano did exactly what many of us wouldn’t and went ahead to run an 800-metre race in Sacremento, California. Though she may have finished last, the former champion said she felt ‘really, really good’ throughout the entire race and was immediately given a standing ovation when she crossed the finishing line!

Alysia is known for competing with a flower in her hair. She began this beautiful tradition in her childhood to remind the boys that racing against a girl doesn’t mean you have to be ‘slow’ or ‘soft’ – and she maintains this. :)

The 28-year-old is expecting her very first baby with husband Louis, who she married in 2011. Before taking part in the race, Alysia was sure to consult with her doctor who in fact encouraged her to take part in the race! Her doctor was of the opinion that if Alysia felt fine to run, there was no harm done to her baby or her own well-being. Considering this super woman has been running since the day she was pregnant – this was just another race she took in her stride!

One of Alysia’s dreams is to eventually open a fitness studio where parents can bring their kids, so the entire family can stay fit and have fun together! Cute, right?

Here’s to more inspiring women like Alysia! What do you think?
