It’s mixed feelings for me right now: glad to be back, but still dreaming of summer. By far, the highlight of my little getaway was Paris. For a fashion girl to eat, drink, shop, and people-watch in Paris is the ideal vacation. Now that I am back to full-time blogging, amongst the many other things we do at the Team MissMalini HQ, I thought it important to share 5 observations I made in Paris. Keep in mind these 5 points, guys and girls, it will get you from monsoon drab to Parisian chic in no time (no matter the weather).

1) Less Is More

You’ve heard it time and again, but do you really embody it in every style decision? Forget just style-related decisions, isn’t it a great way to go about life? Whether it’s makeup, accessories, or prints, if you’re not sure how to make it work… just leave it alone. Go for a simple option. Look in the mirror before you leave, and remove one accessory. If you’ve got bold lips, do away with the crazy eyes. All I ask is, before you step out, have a look in the mirror and think: do I need this, and this, AND this too?

2) When In Doubt, Black (Or Grey) Is Your Best Friend

Seriously. The world knows this. They love their neutrals. You can never go wrong with them.

3) Be You

Don’t let makeup, needles, clothes, or surgery transform you into someone you’re not. Whatever changes you do make for the better, make it subtle and start slow. Always stay true to yourself. This brings me directly to point 4.

4) Effortless Chic

At all times, whether you’ve made an effort or not, you want to look effortless. Tight skirt, tight bun, perfect blouse tucked in, jacket hanging just right… this is a no-no. At least, not all at once. If one piece is doing the talking, give your hair an imperfect touch. If the dress is perfect, let your lips work a tint instead of a bold color. Think along these lines: ‘I just threw this on in a hurry.’

5) Only Lady-Like Vibes Here

Trashy doesn’t go well here. Even if boho or Coachella is your thing year-round, do it in style. We don’t want a bra-strap showing, no smudged eyeliner from the day before, no body odor, and no food in your teeth. This doesn’t mean high-maintenance, it means nice and neat. For example, if you’re wearing a super short skirt, don’t bare cleavage and don’t add stilettos too. It’s trying too hard. Try showing an unusual part of your body sometimes, like your back or a peek of your mid-rift. Always go for one or two kinds of sexy at once. No more.

Keep this in mind as your dress for the weekend!
