IPL teams – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have been suspended from playing for a duration of two years. The cause for this suspension is Raj Kundra (from RR) and Gurunath Meiyappan‘s (from CSK) betting activities during the 2013 season of the Indian Premiere League. This punishment has been declared by a Supreme Court appointed three member committee who have imposed life suspensions for Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan who have been held responsible for tarnishing their teams, the IPL and the BCCI with their actions.

Former Chief Justice of India – R M Lodha headed the committee and said this about the verdict:

Meiyappan was seen as the face of CSK. He ought not to have indulged in corrupt practices, he is found guilty of betting, his conduct affected image of BCCI, the league and the game. He is suspended for life from involvement in any type of cricket matches.

Rajasthan Royals have damaged the faith of BCCI and the sport and is found guilty of misconduct. He is declared ineligible from taking part in cricket for 5 years, and suspended for life from being involved with the BCCI. Raj Kundra acted contrary to the spirit of the game.

It’s unconfirmed if the names of the players involved in this matter will be out or not.
