Did You Know: An Adaptation Of Bajirao Mastani Was In The Making, Decades Ago!

Everyone is aware of Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s mission to adapt the story of Peshwa Bajirao I and Mastani since 2003 with Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. Even after the two opted out, he planned to make the movie with other stars till finally, 12 years later, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra signed the dotted line. But did you guys know that one of the most successful directors of Bollywood – Manmohan Desai (the man who made Amar Akbar Anthony and Coolie) planned to make this magnum opus with Hema Malini and Rajesh Khanna as Mastani and Bajirao respectively?

The producer was on board, the star cast was signed, even the music directors were ready. As the poster says- the film was ‘going on the sets in the coming month‘. Sadly, due to reasons unknown, that didn’t happen. I guess Ranveer and Deepika were destined to play these iconic characters, what do you think?
