The 4th annual South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) took place this weekend in Dubai and it was quite an affair to remember! The two-day event, honoring the best of the best in South Indian cinema, was chock-full of star-studded glamour and electrifying performances. Although we have to admit, being newbies to the field of South Indian cinema, we had a blast watching the who’s who of the industry take center stage to celebrate yet another year of mesmerizing cinema!
Here are some fun/interesting/quirky/adorable things we learned this weekend!
We know what you’re wondering – “What? Four film industries?!” Yup! SIIMA nominates and awards industry professionals from:
Tamil Cinema (aka Kollywood) – based in Chennai
Telugu Cinema (aka Tollywood) – based in Hyderabad
Kannada Cinema (aka Sandalwood) – based in Bengaluru
Malayalam Cinema (aka Mollywood) – based in Kerala
Quite impressive, wouldn’t you say?
Our favorite Bahubali actor took a few minutes to chat with us on the red carpet and we totally fell in love with him! When discussing his wardrobe he told us, “As you can imagine, I find it hard to find clothes! Nothing fits me!” Awww! Don’t worry Rana, we would have never guessed it – you looked so dapper both evenings. :)
Naturally, as each star descended the red carpet, a huge crowd full of die-hard fans went crazy – screams, whistles, claps, cheers – the works! BUT Dhanush’s entry was just something else! From the moment he stepped out of his car and onto the red carpet, it was pure chaos! Cue lightning, fireworks, gunfire, volcanoes (and anything you can think of that’s even louder) and you STILL will fall short of the reception that welcomed Dhanush to the awards function. Can we say royalty?
…and sequins, and mirrors, and everything bling! It was indeed a blinged out weekend as all the female celebs stepped out in their shiniest and most sparkling attire!
He rolled in wearing jeans and a tee – BOTH nights! ‘Cause he can?! Gotta give him props for carrying the “casual weekend look” down the red carpet with a whole lot of swagger and confidence!
