Proclamation from The City of Houston

If you didn’t know already, the hit play, Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha (MWMNT), written and directed by Rakesh Bedi, is spiraling around the world as we speak. With back-to-back houseful venues, the MWMNT team could not be more stoked to share their work.

On August 7th, Anupam Kher – aka Pritam Chopra – and the very classy Neena Gupta – aka Hema Roy – reigned over the hearts of Houstonians. The mayor of Houston, Annise Parker and The City of Houston “commended Mr. Kher on his commitment for providing quality entertainment to the community” and therefore declaring August 7th as Anupam Kher Day.

In fact, due to popular demand in Houston, the show will do ANOTHER screening of the play on September 4th. Houston just couldn’t get enough! Can you blame them? When fans love them so much, Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai!

The ever-so charismatic Anupam Kher, despite his busy schedule, took some time out to chat with us so that all you lovely people could stay updated.

“The play represents the roller coaster of life. There are flashbacks which will allow every age group to relate.”

So, what does “Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha” mean to Anupam Kher?

It is a saying used more often than not by people every day. When I heard the title of the play, I knew I was already going to do it. To me, it seems that men tend to use it more often than women. Perhaps men are less able to express themselves and use more excuses!

Do you use the title phrase often?

No, not really. I am usually clear in what I have to say, and rarely use the phrase.

With celebrities and various other audience members raving about the show, how does that make you feel?

It makes me feel great. You can rope in audiences on the first night through previous credentials, but it is the play that keeps audiences coming back after that.

What is the biggest difference between acting in a movie versus a play?

The live audience. You only get one take, and it is solely dependent on the actor. There are not many enhancements. You really feel the adrenaline kick.

I must confess that I did not want the day spent with Mr. Kher to end. He exudes positive vibes and it really is an honor to be able to spend time with him. Not only is he one of the finest actors, but also one of the most modest beings I have met. If you haven’t already, please go out and experience the magic yourself. You won’t regret it, and I am willing to bet that you’ll want to go at it again. Arrey, mera woh matlab nahin tha!
