It’s Sridevi‘s birthday today! So in her honour, here’s a list of 9 classics starring the superstar that you cannot miss at all. Sadly, because my knowledge is limited when it comes to Tamil, Telegu and Malyalam movies, I can’t put them in my list, so I’m sticking to Bollywood. 1) Mr. India
Well, everything about this movie is iconic. From Amrish Puri‘s Mogambo, to Laxmikant-Pyarelal‘s music, Anil Kapoor‘s invisble act and of course, Sridevi’s memorable role as a journalist. Mr. India is a cult classic and one of the greatest movies made in Bollywood, missing this will be a crime!
2) Sadma
Sridevi was nominated for a National Award for her brilliant performance of a woman who regresses to childhood due to a head injury, co-starring Kamal Hassan who nurses her until she regains her memory but forgets him :'(
3) Nagina
HOW CAN YOU NOT WATCH NAGINA? *Sings main teri dushman to every man out there*
4) Chandni
Who made white costumes THE thing to wear in Switzerland? Who? Sridevi, that’s who!
5) ChaalBaaz
Seeta Aur Geeta got an update with Anju and Manju and boy what an update it was! If there was anyone who could match up to Hema Malini‘s double role in Seeta Aur Geeta, it was Sridevi with ChaalBaaz.
6) Lamhe
Lamhe is rightly regarded as a movie far ahead of its time. The film didn’t work at the box-office but is now regarded as a cult classic.
7) Judaai
Three words – Abba Tabba Chabba.
8) Gumrah
One of Mahesh Bhatt‘s best works, Gumrah was Ek Haseena Thi before there was an Ek Haseena Thi!
9) English Vinglish
It was this movie that gave Sridevi the title of ‘Meryl Streep of India’. Clearly one of the best feature film of the decade, English Vinglish cannot be missed.
