Let’s get our numbers right before we begin, shall we? Manish Malhotra completed 25 years as a costume designer, this year marks 10 years of his label, and last night marked his first collection for men. Manish Malhotra has come a long, long way. So to celebrate this last night at Mehboob studios, there was a show as grand as you’d expect from the Badshah of Bollywood. A monstrous set, The Gentlemen’s Club, Ranbir Kapoor – keep these keywords handy while you read the rest of this post…
…some were suspended from the ceiling, some of the models sat on them mid-show – basically the set was made up of chairs, assembled in the coolest way possible.
His collection was aptly titled, that’s for sure. Models walked down the runway looking dapper as ever in velvet suits, bow-ties and clothes that were the men’s equivalent of his majestic women’s line.
It may have been his first menswear show, but that didn’t stop him from adding in some pieces for women as well. After all, a man can only be as happy as the woman he’s with – so Manish kept everyone happy.
If Ranbir Kapoor was a model, he wouldn’t be very good. Calm your pants, I only say that because he couldn’t stop giggling with the models while he was on the ramp. Of course, we couldn’t stop staring once he walked out in his suit; that could have been titled ‘Bombay Velvet‘ – sorry, couldn’t resist!
A Manish Malhotra show isn’t complete without a glamorous front row, right? So as usual, faces like Shraddha Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Sonali Bendre, Tanishaa Mukerji and others sat up front and watched with the rest of us.
