As I write this, the only thought that’s going through my mind is the echo of last night’s closing show by Monisha Jaising. A bricked runway with a background of pink bougainvilleas hanging from an outdoor window took me back to the Côte d’Azur a.k.a the French Rivera. And after her beautiful collection trotted down the runway, it’s assured – she definitely knows the appropriate clothing wear to carry!
After I’m able to get over the big floppy hats and exotic gowns, I’m reminded of how I spent Day 4 at Lakmé Fashion Week. Now, contrary to popular belief, the opening show at fashion week is as thrilling and exciting as the closing show. Mrinalini Chandra kick started day 4 in the most glittering way possible. Body jewellery never looked this fierce.
Let’s just say that till I came face to face with Nitin Chawla‘s collection, my love for cargo prints seemed to be non-existent. With the Fall Out Boy’s track Centuries playing in the background and men with green dyed beards strutting the runway, I was in complete love. Structured military jackets and metallic tees in neutral colours dominated the show.
Nitya Arora‘s Valliyan collection was nothing you’ve ever seen before. With the models dressed in a gothic facade, we spotted jewellery in brass and gun metal, with tassels, feathers and coloured stones. Urvashi Kaur displayed a beautiful collection fit for a garden tea party. With easy, romantic music, the models walked the runway in pleated pants, long skirts and soft prints.
Masaba Gupta is a woman with unbelievable imagination. As the dim lights increased, the audience met with the sounds of horses and a race commentator. This collection was much more mature than her previous, and it was definitely one of her best. Sooraj Pancholi closed the show wearing her art-inspired creation keeping with the pop colour theme of her previous collections.
Kanika Goyal does no wrong, ever! We spotted bold prints, structured silhouettes and the ever-famous and loved printed sweatshirts. However, this collection had a chic and sophisticated vibe. And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Nikasha blew my mind just a little more. If there’s anybody who loves a flapper movie (like The Great Gatsby), then this show would have left you in awe.
After sitting in the front row for most of the shows, Eina Ahluwalia presented a slightly different kind of show. With a powerful and honest from the heart message, she maintained that every woman should have self-respect and admiration for oneself. Such a beautiful message and such an incredible exhibit.
Guys, if you couldn’t quite picture how Monisha Jaising’s closing show was, then this will give you a better idea. Stay tuned for all the updates coming to you for Day 5!
