It’s been over two years since the promotional rounds of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, but one thing is still the same: whenever Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone come together for an event, they open themselves up to a lot of inappropriate questions. Some of it is due to their past relationship, but some of it also just comes with the territory since they’re such popular celebrities on their own and make for good news stories.

The Tamasha trailer launch was no different. Here’s a look at some hilarious (and, let’s just say it, somewhat awkward) moments from the trailer launch!

On abuses…

In case you can’t remember, Deepika’s first dialogue in the film is her abusing a foreigner. Some choicest words were muted when the trailer was played at the event, and it is likely to be muted during the film, too. (The web cut of the trailer is fine, however.) At the event, Deepika was asked to say the line live and uncensored (I’m sure with the intention of a “Deepika Padukone Abuses At An Event” headline), and it was a bit uncomfortable. There was something of a pause where no one knew what to say, and then, to some laughter, Imtiaz Ali asked, “Is Pahlajji here?” (Reference to Pahlaj Nihalani, chairperson of the censor board.) Deepika seem stumped for an answer and looked like she was trying to avoid the question, but after being prompted again, just said, “Next time.”

On being a bad girl…

On that same note, Deepika was later asked that she’s been using a lot of “slang” and “abusive” words in this film, and whether she thinks “bad girls” will be liked as much as “bad boys” in Bollywood now. Deepika then asked the audience, “You guys tell me if I should answer this question or not.” Some people from the crowd shouted out “no,” and that was that – Deepika ignored the question. Ouch!

On their “sizzling chemistry”…

Many actors in the past have said that they hate the word “chemistry,” and it seems like Deepika and Ranbir agree with this. They were told that they have “sizzling chemistry” in the trailer, after which Ranbir quipped,”The thing is, before a shot, we used to call for a platter of Yoko sizzlers and sit on it.”

The journalist then brought up the time Ranveer Singh said Deepika thinks she has better chemistry with Ranbir. Deepika laughed, said “oh no!” and then proceeded to give a diplomatic – but probably true – answer about how chemistry depends on the film, characters and director.

On working together as “ex-lovers”…

A journalist said it was “astoundingly amazing” and “unique” that they’re ex-partners who are working together and wanted to know how they do it so “amazingly well.” Deepika said, “wow, what a unique question you’ve asked,” but Ranbir won the cake with his answer: “It’s so simple. I wake up in the morning. She wakes up in the morning. She has a shower and shows up on set. I show up on set. Imtiaz Ali narrates the scene and we shoot it. Finished, simple.”

(Seriously, though. Why do we still need this information? I mean, I get it: at MissMalini, too, Ranbir and Deepika make for great content/gossip both together and separately. But having said that, I honestly have no desire to hear Ranbir and Deepika answer questions about what it’s like working together now. It’s 2015. They have broken up years ago. They have answered this question in every possible way over the past 5+ years. It’s not even just about invading their privacy or asking irrelevant questions – it’s just that, how are we not bored of it yet?)

On being asked about Katrina…

It seems like there was a journalist who was yelling out her question – about what Katrina Kaif had to say about the Tamasha trailer – a few times, but because she didn’t have a mic, she wasn’t getting her answer. Finally, though, she got Ranbir’s attention and before she could finish the question, he said, “I heard your question. She hasn’t seen it yet because the trailer has just released. So when she sees it, I will tell you.” The journalist persisted, saying that Ranbir must have shown her the trailer already, but Ranbir said he saw it the first time when he came to the event. Hilariously, the lady asked him, “Then why were you ignoring my question?” Everyone laughed and Ranbir asked if he had not given her an answer – to which she said, “I mean, I had to ask three times.” Haha!

And this is, honestly, just the beginning. Get ready for the rest of tamasha during the film’s promotional rounds…
