I really, really believe that Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone would make great friends had they not been rivals in the industry. One look at their chemistry in Koffee With Karan and you know that if there’s a Bollywood Gossip Girl, Deepika would be Serena and Sonam would be Blair. But enough of my wishful thinking, it seems that Sonam thinks that way too. Okay, she’s not saying that she and Deepika are besties, but in an interview to DNA, she did admit that actresses like Deepika inspire her to direct movies! When asked about her wanting to be a filmmaker, here’s what the beautiful actress said –
I will be directing very soon, maybe in a couple of years. I have written scripts, I have ideas/concepts… I try to understand what it is about life that I want to showcase and what it is that I would like to explore within myself as a person and as an artiste, what I would like to see visually and I put that down. Let’s see whatever comes of it. My training has been in direction. I was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s assistant director for three years and then also in terms of school, I’ve trained in direction and writing.
When asked about the kind of genre she would be interested in, she said –
I find the genres of drama and romance very attractive. I love comedy as well. But I would love to direct women-centric subjects, too. I don’t think I am talented enough to direct myself, but maybe some day I would like to. Right now, several actresses inspire me to direct — Swara Bhaskar, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone, too. They are all so good.
Come on you two, become friends already!
