December is here! December is here! And I can feel it in the air, can you? For Team MissMalini this means we look back at the eventful year we’ve had and pick out some of the best moments to recap it for you. Since it’s the first, I insist we begin our recaps on a beautiful note. I was looking back at some amazing cosmetic launches we saw this year and thought, ‘let’s look back at 12 of the biggest & best beauty collaborations of the year.’ Whether you’re thinking of Holiday shopping, gifting, or just want to look at pretty things for inspiration (like I do all the time)… here goes.
The Cinderella collection dropped right around the release of the new Cinderella movie, which I, b-t-w, LOVED. Any girl who grew up with princess fantasies is bound to love this fairy dust inspired collection. Then we were hit with news of this, which is just in time for the holidays! Mariah Carey‘s releasing a ’90s inspired, frosted lipstick for the holiday season. By the way, this trend is going to be big next year. We’re definitely going to sway to some of her Christmas music as we get dressed with a frosted lip. Third and fourth on the list are M.A.C’s VIVA Glam collections, a tradition they’ve carried on through the years. This year it was pop singer, Miley Cyrus, and petite songstress, Ariana Grande‘s turn. While Miley’s was full of color and vibrance like her style, Ariana’s was sexy and dark!
If you love seeing his designs down the runway, then you can’t have missed this lust-worthy collection. It happened in the later part of the year and they’re still selling stores. As a makeup artist, NARS is just everything and it only gets better when they add interesting new collections to their growing list of beauty miracles. Don’t these colors just embody Spring/Summer?
Celebrity designer, Masaba Gupta, designed a vanity bag with a few of her favorite Clinique Lip Pop picks, earlier this year. We interviewed her on the collaboration and I even have that little case lying in my vanity. It’s my travel best friend. No, seriously. Plus, the All About That Base singer released this line with Clinique in 2015. It happened early in the year and it’s another super cute makeup bag! Plus, she’s got her top lip picks from the brand: including lipsticks, glosses, and chubby sticks.
This is one of the the fewer beauty collaborations to take birth in India, but nevertheless… a beautiful one! Jewelry designer Mrinalini Chandra tied up with ZA for their compact foundations that are available in shining compact cases that have classic Mrinalini Chandra designs on them. Whip this out at a holiday party and that’ll be one standout touch up session.
These came in two special edition, but amazing shades! The collection, right from the packaging, screamed Victoria Beckham chic! This was probably the best part of early February, at least for most beauty addicts.
The Kardashian ladies launched this much-awaited line in partnership with Farouk Systems Inc. to bring a little bit of the Kardashian-like hair to your home. It’s accented with rose gold, a favorite, but of course! These ladies always keep their beauty ahead of the curve.
Now, let’s get to some of the more playful collections. My first experience with makeup, as it is for a lot of people, was with nail polishes. This line was a super hit with young Frozen fans and we can all see why. If you love painting your nails and you live the Disney movie… there’s no better way to celebrate it!
During my years in Philadelphia, CVS Pharmacy visits were a weekend staple and every time I visited CVS, I just couldn’t take my eyes off the Cover Girl rack. They’ve always got the most beautiful brand ambassadors from Queen Latifah to Katy Perry. And if I was there, boy oh boy, I would not have walked past this one. I may not be the biggest Star Wars fan, but there’s no denying that this collection is uber cool with its range of metallic, futuristic lipsticks, nail polishes, and more. Also, this kind of excites us for all the reboot movies that are soon-to-be-released.
They often tie up with designers during Lakmé Fashion Week, especially the finales, to bring us their most cutting edge new products. This year, it was all about the sculpt and strobe. Whether it was Gaurav Gupta‘s show with the Lakmé brand ambassador Kareena Kapoor Khan or Namrata Joshipura‘s collection inspired by Lakmé Insta Light with showstopper, Shraddha Kapoor, they find the coolest ways to merge fashion and beauty. But, we are hoping they come out with a full collaboration line in partnership with their favorite designers, or maybe even Shraddha and Kareena? A girl can always wish, especially during this season.
These were some our favorite beauty collaborations of the year, but we’d love to hear from you! Drop us a comment if we missed your favorite or let us know what you look forward to next year. Happy December, guys!
