Tamasha, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone
Tamasha

Tamasha had a good opening weekend at the Box Office, what with 38.23 crore coming in at the Box Office. While this was the second best start that a Ranbir Kapoor starrer had ever taken (after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), it was pretty much a given that the film would primarily be aiming at a niche audience comprising of urban youth. Yes, the foundation was such that a greater hold during the weekdays would have taken it to a much higher total. The weekdays though saw patronage coming in primarily from that segment of audience which has a flair for Imtiaz Ali directed films, and that reflected in the collections.

As a result, the film now stands at 53.5 crore*. Anything in 55-57 crore range would have been fantastic though it is expected that the gap would be plugged in the second weekend. Hate Story 3 is the sole notable release of the week which is catering to mainstream entertainment and the audience for that is different from the ones who would step in for the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone romantic musical drama.

For producer Sajid Nadiadwala, the film has now taken one of the biggest week one of 2015. Ranbir can breathe a little easy as well, considering the fact that the film has done more than double the lifetime business of Bombay Velvet (23 crore) within one week itself. It now has to be seen that how far does the film go from here.
