Bollywood Has A Terrible Weekend

Chalk N Duster

It was a forgettable weekend for Bollywood as the box office stayed low right through the weekend. An absence of a notable commercial flick and not much in the offering from holdover releases meant that it was something of a dry weekend in theaters.

Chalk N Duster, despite getting a good number of shows (in accordance to its genre and face value), couldn’t make much for an impression. It received decent to good reviews (which was better than expected) but couldn’t entice many to theaters. Since it has practically only one week to make moolah, there isn’t much that one can expect from it, especially after the weekend (1 crore – trade estimates) has hardly generated any numbers.

Wazir, which had started sliding big time on the weekdays, had some respite in the second weekend due to zero competition. It brought in around 6 crore more, and hence stands over 36 crore.

Bajirao Mastani had around 3 crore more coming in the fourth weekend, and currently stands at 184 crore.

Dilwale, which is running at just a show or two in a few multiplexes, has just about managed to be in the vicinity of the 148 crore mark.

Expect some fireworks in the coming weekend, though, when the biggest film of January, Akshay Kumar‘s Airlift, hits the screens along with adult comedy Kya Kool Hain Hum 3.
