Divya Khosla just confirmed Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam‘s relationship in an interview to Filmfare. In the same interaction, she spoke about her casting decisions for her upcoming film Sanam Re.
Pulkit and Yami have a lot of untapped potential. It was exciting for me as a filmmaker to bring that out. It was challenging because Yami is plastered all over thanks to her fairness cream advertisements. I had to make her look fresh – a lot of workshops and look tests went into making her look like a 16-year-old and then a 30-year-old. After you see the film you’ll realise that Yami has performed really well.
For Pulkit’s role, I couldn’t cast anyone who was too successful or happy-go-lucky. When I narrated the story to him I told Pulkit, ‘Look I’m casting you because I see a certain kind of sadness in your eyes.’ And now he goes around telling everyone that, ‘She casted me because she told me that mujhe tumhari aankhon mein udaasi dikhti hain. Poora saal udaas hee rehna aise!’ (Laughs) But that was the demand of the character and I couldn’t have casted anyone who’s seen success. I wanted someone who’s still struggling because the character is of a guy who’s stuck in a rut and how he discovers his happiness eventually.
