Madhumati is one of the many Bimal Roy classics that remains relevant till date. The film had Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala in the lead and was one of the earliest films to deal with the concepts of reincarnation and goth.
The climax of the film was used in Om Shanti Om in 2007. Old is gold, after all!
Bimal Roy went out of finance during the shooting of the film.
Dilip Kumar came to know that Bimal Roy was running out of finance so arranged a special screening for the films distributors before its release. It’s after this screening that the film got released officially.
The film inspired Hollywood film makers to make the film The Reincarnation of Peter Proud 1975 which was later remade as Karz 1980.
The film was the record holder for the most awards received by a film at a popular awards ceremony for 37 years until the release of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
The soundtrack of the movie is iconic and was an instant hit even back in 1958. Music composer Salil Chaudhury weaved magic with this one. Check out the beautiful soundtrack here:
