When we asked Rishi Kapoor‘s Kapoor And Sons co-stars about their experience working with the veteran actor, they had nothing but good things to say about him. However, it turns out that Rishiji himself did not have the greatest time working on this film! In a super candid interview to DNA, he revealed that not only did he fight with Shakun Batra every single day, but he also almost left the project twice – and even called producer Karan Johar to tell him so!
I didn’t have fun working for Shakun Batra in Kapoor & Sons. Not a single day passed when Shakun and I didn’t fight. We fought because I couldn’t agree with his method of working on my role. Shakun wanted to cover every shot of mine from many different angles. But I am old-school spontaneous actor. I couldn’t recreate the same expression several times over for every shot. I respect all schools of acting. But I am not a method actor. With every successive shot I lose my spontaneity. We were constantly arguing. I told him he had taken the wrong actor. I offered to leave the film at least twice.
He even said that the same thing happened to Kareena Kapoor during Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, and she had to call Karan from Las Vegas to complain about the director’s working style.
However, it seems like all is fine now as Rishi Kapoor says he’s extremely happy with his work and the film, and everything turned out fine. So that’s good!
