We don’t know about you, but we love getting style tips from celebrities. And with summer here we thought it would be fun to give you the style 101 on backless outfits and how to pull them off celebrity-style!

Scoop backs are a great twist in a formal dress

Deepika Padukone wore this stunner of a red gown to the Filmfare Awards, so this is a über formal look, but scoop backs are a fun twist even in casual wear.

Open backs give a sexy twist to an otherwise vintage outfit

Kriti Sanon wore a beautiful appliqué dress in this picture, and it has a very vintage appeal, as do many outfits you guys have fancied, we’re sure. The trick is to look for an open back, or sheer back that doesn’t take away from the old-school feel, but gives it a sexy, new twist.

The ‘basic in front, party in the back’ idea always works

If you keep it simple in the front and look for something edgy in the back, it almost always will be a hit. This is the reason ripped, grungy tees look so much more stylised than plain ones. Look at this gown by Mark Kenly Domino Tan on Malaika Arora Khan, and try to tell us you don’t agree!

Criss-cross backs and halters are perfect for the summer

It can be tops, maxi dresses, mini dresses or full-fledged gowns, but halters or criss-cross backs always win for summer style options. Take a tip from hottie Lisa Haydon who’s wearing this perfect creation from Deme by Gabriella, and looks stunning don’t you think?

Here are some interesting gowns from the other side of the pond too!
