One of the biggest personalities of the Israeli film industry, Ronit Elkabetz succumbed to cancer at the age of 51. The actress and filmmaker was known for her illustrious career as a maker and for her beauty and emotional vulnerability on-screen. In 2014, her movie Gett: The Trail of Viviane Amsalem, which she co-wrote and co-directed with her brother Shlomi Elkabetz, was awarded the Israeli Ophir Award for best film, which is Israel’s version of the Academy Award. Gett was also Israel’s 2014 entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, and it was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Golden Globes. The film also featured in MAMI last year and it was one of the best reviews movies there.
