Back when Udta Punjab was first getting made, there was apparently no other studio that was willing to come on board and fund the film. Ekta Kapoor‘s Balaji Motion Pictures stepped up, it seems, but unfortunately things are shaky now due to the standoff between the makers and the censor board – the studio stands to suffer major losses if the film misses its release date (June 17th), which may happen if things aren’t resolved quickly.
Balaji has now released an official statement regarding the issue, where they’re ensuring everyone that Ekta continues to back the film, despite potential losses.
With over 40 crores riding on the film’s production and marketing costs, if it misses its planned release date, there will be a big financial blow to the studio.
While Balaji has been fighting to get the film cleared keeping the creative vision of the director intact, the financial blow would be sizeable if there is a delay in the release of the film. Ekta being well aware of the repercussions and loses, has decided to back the creativity of the film even at the expense of incurring additional costs in the event of a delay in release.
Good to know!
