“No Pain, No Gain!” – That’s the life mantra drilled into girls at a very early age, and seems to apply to everything from career advice to relationships, to even hair growth! I mean, how many of us have silently (or in some cases, not-so-silently) suffered the pain of waxing and the subsequent allergic reactions in our quest for smooth skin?

So, imagine my excitement when I signed on to take the 30 Day Shaving Challenge! The prospect of a pain-free, hair removal option was particularly appealing, especially since I have struggled with eczema as a young adult, and have to be extra careful about equipment used in parlours to avoid any flareups. There were no harmful chemicals involved – which was an additional bonus!
I’ll be honest, my biggest apprehension when I took on the challenge, was the actual technique involved as I was relatively new to the shaving process. Over the course of the month, I was flying to Sydney to attend my sister’s wedding and I didn’t want any unsightly nicks and cuts, especially as I planned to wear a slightly revealing outfit. The blog on shaving hacks by Namrata Soni definitely came to my rescue and answered most of my queries. My advice to anyone who is new to shaving should definitely to read up on the correct techniques, it only takes a few minutes but makes a world of difference!
On to the next step; Packing for the big trip! So, I simply popped my Venus razor and the Venus Satin Care Shave Gel in my makeup bag along with my other essentials, and voila I was set!
For those of you who followed the updates on Twitter, you’ll know that even after 10 days, I had virtually NO hair growth! *does the happy dance*

Over the next 20 days, I had to shave ONLY twice, to keep my skin smooth throughout the trip. Since it was winter in Sydney, I was worried about my skin becoming dry and flaky. But what I discovered was that shaving actually exfoliated my skin and the aloe strip on the razor itself gives you the smoothest shave!
Overall, at the end of the 30 Day Shaving Challenge, it felt really great as I opened my mind to trying something new and actually enjoyed it! For someone who was pretty clueless about shaving, it’s been great to not stress about unwanted hair growth, scheduling appointments for the parlour and most importantly, dealing with the after effects of waxing. What’s more you don’t have to worry about chemicals harming your skin.
Just a quick hop in the shower, a 10 minute shave and I’m out the door! Easy-peasy and no screams :p Ultimately shaving is a personal choice (my goal was smooth skin and a hassle free experience), and something you can try regardless of whether your outfit is revealing or not. And for those of you curious to see what I wore to my sister’s wedding, here’s my #ootd ;)
