Today was a good day on many accounts. First and foremost, I slept like a baby and woke up at 8 am without my alarm clock, which might not be an achievement for most of you, but for me it’s a serious win. In retrospect it was most likely coz I was so completely looking forward to the opening show of Lakme Fashion Week Winter-Festive ’16 featuring none other than my favourite, Tarun Tahiliani. We arrived there hours before the show so that we could have a chance to catch up with the busy man and he was even more charming than I remember from ICW 2016. Before we started the interview, he mentioned how it’s so lovely to have an opportunity to be the opening show because you get to catch people at their freshest and most excited. I tend to agree considering that is exactly how I was feeling at the time. Here’s our conversation:
When it was time for the show, we walked in only to be greeted with this sight.
Could the #ReadyToWear collection one up the awesome stage? One word: Yes. Now, you might associate Tarun with couture and bridal wear, and rightly so. But this guy’s aesthetic and vision just as easily lends itself to pret. Inspired by artist Mrinalini Mukherjee‘s creations, the collection used different textures, graphics and drapes to convey each inspiration. You were taken on a journey through both the techniques used in each section of the collection (according to what piece of art it was inspired by) and also through the colour story. Take a look at the progression here:
And if all that wasn’t enough, he got Kangana Ranaut, fashionista extrodinaire to close the show for him! Bravo TT!
What an epic start to LFW! Onto Day 1!
