Day 4 at Lakme Fashion Week seemed brimming with promise from the get-go because many designers that I’m partial to were showcasing their Winter-Festive ’16 collections, but I wasn’t expecting to have so much fun at the Ashish N Soni show. I mean, I had an idea about the collection coz we got a sneak peek exclusively, but still..
His collection titled Volomatic was representative of his core design aesthetics – a play on volume and monochrome – it was both playful and experimental, and refined at the same time. From the beginning the show seemed fit for the silver anniversary of the label. The show reflected the progression of the collection that drew inspiration from the golden eras of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s in the iconic black and white palette. But this time he played with checks and stripes and funky graphics. Starting with Diana Ross and Cher kinda Studio 54 style to a nod to Madonna and Cyndi Lauper and ending with a ’90s nod to the supermodel era – Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell. The clothes and beauty featured oversized everything – big hair, huge shoulders, oversized silhouettes and intense layering ending with high glam, sophisticated pieces. Even the music was matched to each era!
And if the theatre of it all wasn’t enough, the show ended with hottie Jacqueline Fernandez who owned the ramp with her epic walk!
