If all goes well, the audience might see Ranveer Singh as a street rapper in his next film, being helmed by Zoya Akhtar. Reports suggest that the forthcoming project, rumoured to be titled Gully Boys, is inspired by the life of city-based rapper Naezy and other rappers from Mumbai’s chawls and ghettos.
Asal Hustle rapper, Naezy, whose real name is Naved Sheikh told PTI:
He (Ranveer Singh) is doing the film, it is almost confirmed. But still there are few things which are yet to be finalised, writing is underway. Ranveer also listens to hip-hop. He knows what real hip-hop is. We spoke to him and he is also very excited regarding this. He will enjoy this (role) too. I had done a Bollywood track called ‘Birju’ on which he lip synced and was in my get up. He was rapping like me.
He further added:
He listens to all our music. He is a very versatile actor. He can be a Bajirao and a rapper too.
According to Naezy, the actor visited their locality and tried to understand the life and stories of underground rappers. However, there isn’t any official confirmation from either Zoya or Ranveer regarding the project. But hey, can you imagine what a cool rapper Ranveer will make?!
