Owing to its fresh and new concept that also sends across an important message to the society, Colors’ one-of-its-kind show Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki has slowly climbed up the TRP charts to bag the topmost position.

The show has Rubina Dilaik and Vivian Dsena in lead roles and the plot revolves around Saumya, played by Rubina, who learns that she is a kinnar (transgender) post her marriage to Harman (Vivian) and how she overcomes the obstacles that crop in her life due to her sexual orientation.

When asked if she was apprehensive about playing the role of a transgender as television actors tend to get stereotyped rather easily, Rubina told us:

It’s a human instinct to have apprehensions first, the fear of whether I will be accepted or not, the fear of rejection. But my confidence was much stronger and once I take a step towards something, I never retreat back. Yes, people only recognise us by the characters that we live on day to day basis because we do daily soaps. The joy of performing that character has always been larger than the fear. I think striking a balance between that fear and the joy of working constantly keeps me on my toes to do something better.

Surely, a role like this must have required a lot of preparation, but the pretty actress said that:

I do not believe in method acting. I strongly believe that an actor only reacts to the situation. I had the opportunity of sitting down with the makers of the show and understanding what they are really looking at and that time spent with the story writers has really helped me understand how this character is going to evolve with time.

She also spoke about her co-actor Vivian Dsena, saying:

He is a thorough professional and provides the comfort zone for an actor to perform when two actors share the same screen space. He has provided that comfort and understanding that we both can share and portray our characters easily and respectfully on screen.

We wish you lots of success for the show, Rubina!
