Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

You may bring out the critic in you and point a finger at Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge‘s logic. You’ve probably laughed at the films’ memes too. But let’s face it – every time we watch any of these tear jerkers, we laugh and cry at the same time. Because that’s what Karan Johar‘s films are made of, many emotions coupled together that are bound to melt your heart.

KJo debuted with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and I don’t know about you, but Rahul and Anjali‘s love story is something I swear by. However, the man behind the magnum opus recently spoke about what’s playing on all our minds while he was at the Jagran Film Festival. Apparently, the filmmaker pointed out some flaws in the film and went on to say that he cannot write the same kind of movie now.

Here’s what he said:

Actually, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a very unusually silly theme. Don’t know what the mother wrote in those eight letters, how can a eight-year-old read that? Rahul says, ‘Zindagi mein pyaar ek bar hota hai, shaadi ek bar hoti hai’, but he himself has fallen in love twice, got married twice. Everything was wrong, but it was written with so much conviction that it made sense, There was some innocence in films of those times, when we used to say pyaar dosti hai. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai had an organic innocence, I was 24 when I wrote that film… But I can’t write the same film now. When I see films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, I wonder, why I wrote this, how did I write this and from where did these thoughts came to my mind?

We love you KJo!
