Mirzya, M.S Dhoni- The Untold Story
Mirzya, M.S Dhoni- The Untold Story

Mirzya has turned out to be the biggest disaster of 2016. Though there have been several poor shows at the Box Office this year, nothing can beat the fate that the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film has suffered in theaters. This can be seen from the fact that the film, in its opening weekend, has earned lesser than Madaari, Freaky Ali, Great Grand Masti, 1920 London and Teraa Surroor while being spoken about in the same context as Banjo and Saala Khadoos.

Take a look at the earnings below:

  1. Madaari – 9.75 crores
  2. Freaky Ali – 8.5 crores
  3. Great Grand Masti – 8.5 crores
  4. 1920 London – 7.73 crores
  5. Teraa Surroor – 6.46 crores
  6. Mirzya – 6.25 crores*
  7. Banjo – 5.92 crores
  8. Saala Khadoos – 5.79 crores

A complete rejection from all quarters has been quite unfortunate for the film as it would now turn out to be a one week show, at maximum. While it originally came with a huge advantage of a three week open run, owing to the next big releases being Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil on Diwali, all of that has now disappeared in thin air as there is just no traction for the film. It now has to be seen if the film would eventually manage to have a first week run of 10 crore.

M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story is meanwhile enjoying a steady run at the Box Office. Yes, from the first weekend (66 crores) to the second (15 crores*) it has seen a fall but that is again on a relative note. In absolute numbers, this is still much better as this spells into the fact that the weekdays would be decent. At 109 crore*, the Fox production has stayed well in contention for a reasonably long run. Considering the fact that Mirzya is no more in the running, it is an advantage for Neeraj Pandey and Sushant Singh Rajput as their film is going to be the only notable option for the audiences till Diwali.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
