Cinema moms have their own Hall of Fame in Bollywood. They are gripping, fun to watch and have a high recall value – right from the mother of mothers, Nirupa Roy to Manju (Kirron Kher) in Khoobsurat. Say what you may, but we love all (or most of them, at least) the Bollywood Maa(s) and their is no denying the fact that they are very integral to our films.

Most recently, Vidya Balan has created quite a stir with her role of, what comes across as a loving mother as well as a wanted criminal. That’s another “maa” character to which we are looking forward.

Take a look at some of the famous Bollywood mothers:

1. Amrita Singh in 2 States

The typical Punjabi mother who hates her bahu but can do anything for her laadla beta.

2. Rakhee in Karan Arjun

The emotional ma who lays quite with the hope that “mere Karan Arjun aayenge”.

3. Reema Lagoo in Hum Sath Sath Hai

The aadarsh ma with morals, hair bun and sari- all tucked in the right place.

4. Ratna Pathak Shah in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Over-protective much, but none other than Ratna Pathak Shah could have played the role of a mother talking to a portrait with so much conviction – that too without sounding imbecile.

5. Vidya Malvade in Kidnap

Classy, sophisticated and stylish- she is the mother whose style everyone tries to ape, but very few manage to achieve success.

6. Kirron Kher in Dostana

Absolute favourite! She can brim your eyes with tears and also leave you in splits with her wit and one-liners.

7. Dolly Ahluwalia in Vicky Donor

Ah well! She was the unconventional and fun loving mom, who can be a great companion for the “night cap”. 😉

8. Ratna Pathak Shah in Kapoor and Sons

She should start a league of her own, I feel. Her role as a woman struggling with the challenges of motherhood, marriage and life was easily relatable. She visibly could not strike a balance as a mother, and yet she struck a chord with viewers.

That’s all, folks! Who is your favourite amongst them?
