As a beauty editor, the notion of vintage makeup is probably the coolest and most intriguing thing there is. I’ve always loved that good ol’ Hollywood glam—the red lips, those peachy cheeks, so when I came across this video, I was super excited.

The video above shows us how compact powder (we now all use and love today) was made in the 1950s. The employee in the video demonstrates how by mixing different pigments, the right shade of powder was achieved. And what’s even cooler, is the machine for pressing the loose pigments into a compact!
