Earlier this year, Virat Kohli tweeted his disapproval when fans trolled his alleged girlfriend, Anushka Sharma for his poor performance in the T20 matches. Virat stood up for his lady love when Twitter went into the troll mode and blamed Anushka for distracting him by her presence during the matches.

He tweeted:

As 2016 draws to a close, Twitter released its list of tweets that made the most impact virtually, in India. AND, Virat’s tweet was announced as the “Golden Tweet or the most Retweeted Tweet of 2016”. It was well-appreciated for advocating a positive online behaviour and was welcomed by other like-minded individuals, which helped make it viral.

The tweet had over 39,000 retweets and over one lakh Likes. Reportedly, Maya Hari, Managing Director, Twitter, Southeast Asia and India, said that Virat’s tweet was the ultimate winner because he stood out as a great role model for standing up for a woman and also for her safety and defence on the social platform.

D’awww!
