When it comes to exfoliation, there’s a lot of confusion. Some say that you can exfoliate every day, whilst others claim that it harms your skin. To clear up all the questions, we turned to a true expert, Dr. Rashmi Shetty.

According to Dr. Shetty, if you have a great exfoliant you can use it daily. However, once in three days is the perfect amount. The key factor though is the nature of exfoliant you use. Chemical exfoliators contain acids like AHAs, whilst mechanical exfoliators are those which come in the form of granules.

If chemicals are your preference, opt for products which have a low concentration of AHAs. The most common ones in this category are glycolic acid and lactic acid. These ingredients work really well to get rid off dullness and flaky skin. For best results, use these at night. Remember to apply a sunscreen the next day, as such products tend to increase the photosensitivity of your skin.

When it comes to physical exfoliators, take a lot of care in choosing the right formula. To avoid wear and tear of skin, look for small sized granules with smooth surfaces. Those with sensitive skin should go for creamy cleansers with tiny granules.

As long as you pick the right formula, exfoliating will always be beneficial to your skin. Add this step to your skincare routine to get a glowing complexion, in no time!
